ORBIT BENEFITS CASE STUDY
Rubicon drives expansion into Orbit
The competitive skills market in the technology sector makes acquiring and retaining the right personnel difficult for small and medium sized companies. In a sector where large corporations can lure staff with generous benefits packages, companies that cannot afford to dedicate resources to this area can lose out.
To redress this imbalance, Rubicon, the insurance consulting and interim management specialists, made the decision to outsource benefits provision to a specialist when the company started in December 2000. Based on a recommendation, it selected Orbit Benefits to arrange a competitive package. At the time, the company's major concern was to save valuable staff hours so that all efforts could be channelled into growing the core areas of the business.
“As a small, busy company, it made sense to outsource non-core functions to save time”
Diane Bromley Head of Human Resources at Rubicon.
Since launch, it has extended its relationship with Orbit to run benefits for its 600 employees in eight locations in the UK.
One advantage of the relationship with Orbit is the flexibility it offers to scale benefits in line with company expansion. As Rubicon has grown, organically and through acquisitions, the emphasis on the competitiveness of benefits provision has been key to staff satisfaction. Diane adds:
“When we have made an acquisition, people from Orbit have gone to the new site within a few weeks and presented to employees to explain their new benefits options. This has helped smooth the process of integrating new staff at a time of uncertainty”.
Diane Bromley Head of Human Resources at Rubicon.
Orbit's commitment to supplying information to Rubicon's employees is paramount to the company's fostering of transparency and autonomy for the user. According to Diane, employees take a much more active involvement in their benefits than they have under previous employers, and she is expecting this to increase further as the company rolls-out Orbit's on-line service to new locations.
The fact that Rubicon itself offers outsourced services to clients makes employees very discerning about the service they receive through their outsourced relationships.
“We expect high standards from Orbit, just as we offer our clients high standards”
Diane Bromley Head of Human Resources at Rubicon.
“The quality of Orbit's provision means we can rest assured we are offering competitive benefits, satisfying not only our employees but also contributing to the success of the company.”
Diane Bromley Head of Human Resources at Rubicon.
Diane adds:
“The package offered by Orbit Benefits has added to our reputation as a good employer and enabled us to attract the most highly skilled staff. This has contributed to our rapid growth”.
